When we listen to a speaker or take part in a workshop we are offered an opportunity of some sort. Maybe we get an opportunity to learn and understand, an opportunity to experience insight and set our intention, or an opportunity to just enjoy and laugh a little for a while. My objective is always to create a field for an experience that consists of all these ingredients and opportunities. I do not only want to inspire in the current moment, but also encourage the participant to discover insights, perspectives and tools that in some way can contribute to an even more satisfactory experience of life, both professionally and personally.
To accomplish this, we need a portion of interactivity, some inspiration to self-reflect and a little bit of playfulness. The participant’s focus is hence shared between himself/herself and the speech or workshop – between the inner and the outer. This is how we create lasting impact. This is how we stimulate learning at a deeper level. Therefore, the speeches almost always contain a mix of active listening and short excercises for reflection, practice, relaxation or visualization. Here I have chosen to present a number of themes that keep recurring when organizations ask for speeches and workshops on personal leadership and development. These themes are of course tailored based on the composition, interests and challenges of the group. They can also be connected into a series of events with a clear red thread and useful feedback and reinforcement loops.
